Dear Library Community,

Please plan to join CLA, CSLA, and your fellow Library Advocates for Day in the District on Friday, April 16th!

This year, both the California Library Association (CLA) and the California School Library Association (CSLA) will schedule visits with legislators in their local district offices throughout the stateThese Day in the District meetings will provide a great opportunity to educate your legislators and their aides about the importance of libraries within their respective jurisdictions. To schedule these visits, CLA and CSLA are working in unison to supply legislative contacts for each legislator using the same system we’ve used over the past several years. Tip sheets on how the system works and legislative priorities will soon be made available on both the CLA and CSLA web sites.

Please note, if a legislator is unable to meet on the 16th, our legislative contacts will set an alternative date.

If you are interested in helping set up legislative meetings, please contact Kevin Kilkenny, CLA Legislative Coordinator, at 916-233-3298 or kevink@cla-net.org. Otherwise, watch for an announcement in the next couple of weeks that will provide registration information.  Also of note, both the California Library Association and the California School Library Association will not be hosting an annual Legislative Day in Sacramento this year. Instead, our Associations will be focusing on local efforts in 2010 with a view to a stronger 2011 Legislative Day at the State Capitol. The 2010 Day in the District event is being held in conjunction with National Library Week and California's Library Week. Remember: Day in the District is your opportunity to remind your legislators of the value of libraries—public, school, rural, urban—in their community. If you have any other questions please contact Deborah Doyle, CLA Advocacy & Legislative Committee Chair, at 415-269-0940 or email zorrah@gmail.com.
